Mother’s Day Crafts with Glass Chalkboard Paint

Mother's Day Crafts with Glass Chalkboard Paint from Marty's Musings

DecoArt sponsored our Google+ Live Hangouts on Air at Crafty Hangouts and sent all of us a few products to have fun with. (You can watch my video here.)

I’ve shared before about our special plate used to celebrate special days in our family. When DecoArt included glass chalkboard paint in our package I was excited to give it a try.

My projects include unique Mother’s Day crafts ideas using a glass plate I had on hand. These plates are also available at dollar stores.

I first cleaned the plate with rubbing alcohol and then began to apply one coat at a time of the Glass Chalkboard paint.

You can see the design of the glass plate as I began to add coats of paint to it. I applied the chalkboard paint with a cosmetic sponge, about 5 coats in all.

I only waited about an hour or two between coats (and you probably don’t have to wait that long, but I wanted to be sure it was dry.) Allow the plate to dry for 4 days and then bake for 30 minutes in a 325 degree oven. I allowed the project to cool with the oven door open.

Next step is the fun part! My youngest son is quite the artist so I gave him the task of drawing me a design to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Here is another yard sale plate that I painted and let my youngest daughter decorate.

Let me state the obvious and say you don’t want your mom to eat off this plate, just admire it!

This sunshiny yellow plate is also a dollar store purchase. For this project I used DecoArt glass paint markers in various colors. This paint is supposed to dry for 4 hours and then came be baked for 40 minutes in a 375 degree oven for permanency.  It can also be cooled with the oven door open.

These are just a few ideas for Mother’s Day. Last year on Mother’s Day I wrote a post that includes a tear jerking letter from an older mom to her daughter.

As a mom of five children I have been given many presents over the years, both handmade and purchased. As my children are getting older and two have left home already I realize the best gift for a mom is time spent celebrating the gift she is to you. Don’t miss an opportunity to love on your mom and cherish these precious moments.

Disclosure: DecoArt gave me supplies to play with, but the opinions are all my own!
