Since I seem to be one of those distracted bloggers that can’t keep all the balls juggling in the air I have to tell you I never finished sharing our budget bedroom makeover from last year.

Yes, last year!

I used to be so organized as a stay at home, homeschooling mom of five.

For heaven’s sake. WHAT HAPPENED?

Life happened. The end.

Anyhoo, this project combines both interior paint with chalk paint. The furniture was a hand me down but was way too ornate for my style and our new room. It was, however, incredibly well built and once I convinced my husband to let me paint it I was ready to go!

Tim has used Behr paint for years. YEARS. It’s his go to paint for his painting business even though he’s not working that job right now (read that wild and crazy story here.)

He had already painted the walls with BEHR Premium Plus Ultra, Interior Eggshell Enamel, Pewter Mug 770E-3.

Here we have the finished product! In our small bedroom it’s hard to get a good angle but I think you can tell the difference!

Here’s a good before and after of the exact placement on the wall. Pretty amazing difference isn’t it?

Gray and Coral Bedroom Makeover - Marty's Musings
By using both chalk and wall paint this bedroom furniture went from outdated to shabby chic gorgeous! Great shabby chic bedroom ideas.

Tim did the the more detailed work with the gray paint and I concentrated on the larger areas.

You can see part of the dresser and also the hutch makeover with fabric, chalk paint and Behr paint as well.

I loved mixing chalk paint and and Behr interior paint.

Both paints distress equally well although you do have to be a little more aggressive with the Behr paint. For someone like me who was a novice with this project it gave me the freedom to experiment without being afraid of messing up.

I love how this project turned out and completed the bedroom makeover.

Paint and Bed

Our go to paint for this project was Behr Paint 780F-5 Anonymous in Interior Eggshell Enamel.

  1. So pretty. I had some furniture like this for a while with dreams of painting but changed styles. I love this style still though.

    1. Hi, Sara. Thanks for the compliment. My husband and I are actually separated now but he did have two rotator cuff surgeries that were successful.

  2. Hi, just to satisfy my own curiosity. Was there a reason you used the Behr paint “as is,” meaning you didn’t add and plaster of Paris to make the paint a chalk paint?

    Thanks

  3. curious if the paint held up on your drawer hardware? we have chalk painted our furniture and need to paint the hardware, but are fairly certain it’ll rub off after repeated use.

    1. Hi, Julie The paint has actually held up pretty well but if I had to do it over again I probably wouldn’t paint them. I would just clean them up instead. In hindsight I like the look of unpainted hardware better. Hope that helps!

  4. Hi! I really loved the colors you used! If yoy dont mind me asking… Was the darker grey on the dresser the same paint and same color as the paint on the wall? I want to paint my room using these colors 🙂 beautiful job!

    1. Hi, Erin. We used BEHR Premium Plus Ultra, Interior Eggshell Enamel, Pewter Mug 770E-3 on the walls and Behr Paint 780F-5 Anonymous in Interior Eggshell Enamel on the dresser. The colors have just a little bit of variation. Glad you enjoyed the project!

    1. Hey, girl! I’m a little slow sharing, aren’t I? I still have a couple of projects left from this room! I think I’ll never run out of things to say (and Tim agrees!) I do love how the mix of paints turned out. It was indeed my try at painting furniture. I had done a few little accessories but we attacked this room on the spur of the moment when it iced. I always have to have my colors picked out ahead of time!
