I’ve served it my daughter’s wedding, my yearly Christmas parties, elephant themed baby shower, and as a holiday punch.
My oldest daughter loved it so much she talked me into making 18 gallons of it for her wedding. You read that right. 18 gallons! Now that’s a mama’s love right there! (Read how we threw a dream wedding for $5k here!)

FAQs about frozen punch
Beverage Container Ideas
If you need a large beverage container this one has the removable ice cone in the middle. It’s one of my favorite ways to serve punch. (However, honestly, you can’t dip out the fun slushy ice from this dispenser so it tastes better in a punch bowl. Your choice!)
Maybe a large punch bowl is more your style. This glass one also comes with 8 glasses, perfect for a luncheon or party!
Substitutions for this recipe
- Use any flavor jell-o but I prefer red (strawberry) or green gelatin. These are perfect for the holidays.
- Don’t use grape jello because it ends up greyish pukey-looking. Just sayin’.
- I haven’t tried it but you could give orange juice in place of the pineapple juice.
- For an adult version you could also add a shot of vodka for the perfect combination of frozen drink and a bit of alcohol. I haven’t tried this so if you do, let me know how it turns out!

I used to make this for adult Christmas parties and added vodka. It was always a hit and never any left over. I used sf jello to cut down on sweetness so no sugar. I also used sf soda too.
Hi, Lori. I love this recipe as well! Haven’t made it in a while but it was always such a hit. Sugar free jello is a great idea!
How long can you keep frozen punch in the freezer?
Hi, Sonya. I would say 3 months in the freezer would be good. As I was preparing for my daughter’s wedding I made several patches in the weeks leading up to the date. Hope this helps!
Hi, I noticed nobody has added any wine. I’m looking for a punch that we can enjoy with appies while getting ready at the house for my daughter’s wedding photos and it’s more fun to have a little kick in your punch. Is there a particular wine or champagne you’d choose. Thanks Wendy
How many people would you guess one batch serves?
My Mother-in-law catered weddings and we made this punch a lot but we never used lemon juice. We used pineapple juice, quava nectar, peach nectar, pear nectar and mango nectar. It is amazing. I still do it for showers.
It sounds delicious, Darlene! I miss the days of hosting showers and parties!
Sounds just as good as this one. Perhaps you’re willing to share recipe?
I plan to make this punch using lemon jello. It’s for my mother’s 80th birthday and her favorite color is yellow.
I love that, Karlene. Happy 80th to your mom!
Making this for my daughters baby shower. Made other slush punches before. Ready to make a new one.
Hi, Judy. Enjoy the recipe and your daughters baby shower! We have a new grandson, which makes three! Such an exciting time!
Hi Marty,
I am from Canada and just wondering what you use for lemon juice in your recipe. Realemon lemon juice from concentrate or pre made lemon juice?
Hi, Tammy. I just use the bottled lemon juice. It doesn’t have to be a name brand. Hope this helps!
If i don’t have time to freeze it will it turn out? It just won’t be a slush correct?
Hi, Jennifer. I’ve never done it without freezing it. I’m not sure it would taste as good. If you try it that way, let me know!
So how much frozen punch do you put in the punch bowl at a time to add ginger ale.
Hi, Sonya. It really depends on the size of the punch bowl. If possible, I would just divide everything in half. You can also make this ahead of time and put into containers in the refrigerator. Hope this helps!
Will the punch freeze overnight In 32 oz containers?
Hi, Kellie. That should be enough time. The smaller the containers the faster it will freeze. Good luck!
Im confused
I see you melt the sugar in the 9 cups of boiling water but then the ingredients list 4 more cups of water …. where do these come in?
Are you dissolving the jello in these 4 cups?
Thanks so much
Hi, Bonnie. You dissolve the jello in 9 cups boiling water and set aside. Then you boil 4 cups sugar and 4 cups water and add to jello. So there are 2 separate steps with water. Make sense? Marty
What flavor of jello did you use for your daughter’s wedding? And your 25th Ann.?
Hi, Crystal. I was trying to look at pics and remember what we used for my daughter’s wedding! I believe we used lime for the wedding and for our anniversary we used red (strawberry or something similar). I make this recipe most everything Christmas and red is my favorite. Grape or something like that is NOT the flavor to use. Stick to pure colors. Good luck!
Made your frozen punch for a shower & it was a huge hit, everyone loved it. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
What do you freeze the punch in? Is it hard to get it out of the container when you’re ready to serve? How long do you suggest setting out before it’s slushy and ready to serve?
Hi, Wjitney. When I made the punch for my daughter’s wedding I froze it in plastic milk jugs and then just cut them open with a knife or cutter. It wasn’t ideal but it saved the cost of pitchers. When I’m making it for a smaller group I just use plastic gallon pitchers. I usually thaw at room temperature about 4 to 5 hours ahead of time in an average climate. Good luck!
We make this for church potlucks. We freeze them in gallon ziplock bags. When we need one we pop it in a microwave for about two minutes or just until the outside thaws a bit.
I love this, Valerie! This would be delicious in the summer for the kids! Thanks for sharing!
i would love to try this recipe and freeze ahead of time. How much do this recipe make in total with just the freezing portion before the ginger ale?
Hi, Tammy. Depending on the type of container it makes about a gallon and a half. We’ve used both milk jugs and gallon pitchers. I’ve also been known to add some extra juices if I bought bigger bottles. Good luck!
Can I put this in freezer bags?
Hi, Janice. I think you could but I would double bag them to be safe. When you get ready to use them, lay them in the pitcher (or punch bowl or whatever) and cut them so they don’t splash or make a mess. Hope this helps!
I made this for a retirement party at my school and it made enough to give all sixty people there a cup. So it is a big batch and you should have extra bottles of juice and pop if you have to thaw it quickly or stretch it. I added a big bottle of cranberry juice in order to melt it a little faster. Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe.
