Are you a fan of Sesame Street? Do your kids watch or is that too old fashioned these days?
The show is about 45 years old, but I have to admit that I never watched it growing up. There was little tv watching in our home (on our old black and white tv and yes I’m that old!)
But everybody knows cookie monster!
These Cookie Monster Brownie Cookies may not be blue like everyone’s favorite monster, but they are adorable and perfectly scrumptious whether you’re a fan or not.
I’m guessing your little monster will gobble them right up!
These would be terrific for a class party, church function or even just for your own kids. Trust me, my “big kid” husband ate the most and could not walk by the plate without snacking!
The only thing I would change is to make them smaller. These big cookies are more sugar than little kids need for sure!
Even though the cookie dough looks messy they bake up beautifully.
My 16-year-old daughter was my helper in decorating the eyes.
She also had the great idea to use mini chocolate chips for the eyes.
I made one half of the basic butter cream frosting recipe thinking it would be enough. It wasn’t so I had to go back and make more. Go ahead and make the full recipe and watch any extra frosting get mysteriously gobbled up by your very own little monsters!

Cookie Monster Brownie Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1 cup Dixie Crystals Granulated Sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk flour, cocoa, baking and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and creamy, about 3 minutes.
- Add egg, milk and vanilla. Slowly add dry ingredients.
- Drop batter by heaping tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 minutes. The cookies will be set, but still soft. Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- After cookies have cooled, spread buttercream icing on one cokie and top with another cookie to make a “sandwich.”
- Spoon frosting into a pastry bag (or plastic baggie) and use a star tip for the whites of the eyes.
- Add two mini chocolate chips.
Notes
If you roll the dough in your palms and then flatten it will make a more uniform cookie.
