DIY Buffalo Plaid Christmas Hoop Wreath

This DIY buffalo plaid Christmas hoop wreath is both simple and gorgeous! Use what you have on hand and it’s cheap, too!

Christmas is my favorite season to decorate my home and in the past I loved making crafty decorations each year.

Since we were homeschoolers for 23 years, my kids would usually join in making ornaments for their church teachers and family members.

Now that we’re empty nesters our dog Carson is my constant companion (and photographer’s helper!)

Yet as I’ve gotten older (more mature, lol!) I long for the ease of simple projects that still bring me joy. I don’t need to impress anyone or fill my days with endless projects.

But because I work from home I do want this to be happy place that both relaxes and inspires me.

This year I made this DIY buffalo plaid Christmas hoop wreath for my front door because I had absolutely NOTHING for the door!

My hope is this easy project will inspire you today (and it would be easy to translate to any season!)

Steps for making this DIY Buffalo Plaid Christmas Hoop Wreath:

• Lay wooden hoop on top of fabric and draw a circle around the outer edge.
• Cut outside the circle of fabric, 1 1/2 – 2 inches.
• Keep the fabric taut as you hot glue the edges.
• Hot glue floral stems.
• Make a simple bow and gather together using floral wire.
• Attach bow to wreath with hot glue.
• Make wood slices and add chalkboard paint and word.

MATERIALS:

Buffalo plaid fabric
18″ wooden quilting hoop
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Artificial flowers
Wired buffalo plaid ribbon
Wood slices painted with chalkboard paint – instructions to make your own
Wood slices
Chalkboard paint
Chalkboard marker
Floral wire
Jute

Step 1. Lay wooden hoop on top of fabric and draw a circle around the outer edge.

You can use a pencil or marker, making sure nothing goes through to the front of the fabric.

Step 2. Cut outside the circle of fabric, 1 1/2 – 2 inches.

Because you will hot glue the fabric in the next step, just make sure there is a large enough edge for glueing.

Step 3. Keep the fabric taut as you hot glue the edges.

You could probably use a different adhesive at this point but the hot glue gun is fast and works well.

Step 4. Hot glue floral stems.

I also glued as many leaves and parts of the stems as necessary to keep from falling off.

Step 5. Make a simple bow and gather together using floral wire.

I’m not going to give instructions for making the bow because I’m terrible at them! You can find a great tutorial here.

Step 6. Attach bow to wreath with hot glue.

My glue gun is pretty heavy duty so be careful not to burn your fingers!

Step 7. Make wood slices and add chalkboard paint and word.

You can always order pre-made wood slices and chalkboard paint the inside. This tutorial will show how I made mine.

I hung mine with jute and then hot glued to the actual buffalo plaid fabric. The ends of the jute were attached on the back side of the hoop.

This easy hoop wreath could be used for any season by changing up the fabric and floral attachments. Simple and inexpensive, my favorite!
