When our kids were younger we usually had one weekend night that was “family” night and involved some sort of game or performance by the kids (think dress up and lip syncing!)
In those early years of living life on fast forward and thinking the days would never end we took pictures and videos to capture those moments because we knew even then that time was fleeting.
The years have indeed passed by quickly and Tim and I are on the brink of being empty nesters. Our youngest daughter is our only homeschooler with one year remaining before she moves on with her adult life.
What looked like an impossibility so many years ago is now reality staring us in the face.
Y’all, it sure looks different from this perspective.
These last 27 years have been full of joys and sorrows, struggles and triumphs, but one thing I know for sure. Those family nights were some of my favorite moments.
Some evenings were more spontaneous than the next with walks to the park or playing badminton in the backyard. Others required negotiation (one game for the little kids and another for the big ones).
Whenever our family gets together now it’s a precious time to create memories and just enjoy life together.
There usually isn’t an agenda, although sometimes we celebrate a birthday (like our grandson Aiden’s first) or play games.
Mostly it’s just being entertained by Aiden while we catch up on each other’s busy lives.
A meal and a dessert like Sara Lee Original Cream Classic Cheesecake from Food Lion is always part of the occasion.
Since we’re all working towards a healthier lifestyle I decided to offer fresh fruit as toppings for the cheesecake.
(But since I still have a sweet tooth I did have sugar free caramel and whipped cream on hand, too!)
Aiden went to town on some blueberries first thing!
I love that everyone could pick their favorite topping and the cheesecake was so yummy!
Can you guess who had the most fun. though?
Rachel decided to let Aiden have a taste of the whipped cream and it was game on!
Family+time=memories.
I could eat that face up with a spoon!
