Easy fall decorating ideas with an easy fall table setting

It’s finally here. Our All Things Home Fall Tour has arrived at my house!

Fall Decorating and Home Tour from Marty's Musings

I’ve been decorating and crafting and even just thinking about fall decorating ideas for weeks!

I hope you’ll feel welcome and comfortable because this ain’t a fancy party.

More like a shindig (that’s Southern for a little gathering).

Y’all come on in here now and set a spell (that’s Southern for make yourself at home) ’cause it’s Happy Fall Y’all!

And just for the occasion I have a spunky, freshly painted front door.

Fall Decorating Ideas and Home Tour

Welcome to my humble home. I don’t put on airs (that’s Southern for pretend to be something I’m not.)

I hope to inspire you with all things simple and frugal (including this easy DIY fall wreath).

Let’s start as you come into my home and go straight into the living room.

I don’t have a fireplace or a mantel but I pretend like I do!

A room filled with furniture and vase of flowers on a table

I treat the top of my piano like a mantel, and it’s my favorite place to try new things.

A room with a couch and a table in front of a mirror

Every single home decor item in our living room either came from a yard sale or was free. The window was a freebie from a job site my husband discovered near where he was working.

This wreath is my favorite. It was a $1 yard sale find and I took strips of fabric from an old shirt and tied as accents.

This large mason jar is also a $1 yard sale find and is filled with balls of yarn, pine cones and acorns.

Acorn and Autumn

The candle holders were spray painted white and used at my daughter’s wedding. I change up the ribbon and embellishments and use them all year long.

Idea and Yard

I hope you’ll enjoy the little bits and pieces of fall scattered throughout my home.

Here’s my happy chair with all the memories that I shared in my Summer 2013 Showcase of Homes tour. My rocker is now dressed up with a yard sale throw and a pillow made from an old sweater.

A brown leather couch in a living room

I adore this canister (which came with the coolest lid) and filled with hydrangeas it tones down some of the other fall accent colors.

Last year this branch candle centerpiece was the anchor for my kitchen centerpiece but now it graces our rustic window table.

All the accessories were purchased on seasonal clearance at craft stores.

The little scarecrow was made by my now 24-year-old daughter during our first year of homeschooling.

Who am I kidding? She was 5 and I made it for her. Kinda like the Little House on the Prairie diorama we she made.

I still love this pinecone door arrangement that I made last year. Now it just resides on the back of the door instead of the front!

And here it is again…..my daughter’s my little homemade scarecrow. Isn’t it cute (even though its’ pinecone legs are all askew).

Let’s move into the den and I’ll show you my second mantel entertainment center that I decorate.

The big flower arrangements on either side were purchased just this past Saturday at a yard sale for $3. Aren’t they amazing?

(And no, I didn’t notice until just now that I forgot to take the black cable antenna off for the picture. Oops. Just pretend it’s supposed to be there.)

I made little fabric pumpkins and gave little fall accents to some of my normal everyday decor.

The window at my sink used to be an exterior one, but our house was added on to and it now looks into the den. Not a very interesting sight, but I like to decorate the sill so I have something pretty to look at while I’m washing dishes.

These pinecones in the little mini pots are my favorite frugal decorating items this year. I picked up this picket fence box for $1 this past weekend as well.

Just in case I haven’t made you feel welcome yet, here’s a reminder with my chalk message board made from an old bathroom mirror.

Won’t you sit down and have a pumpkin muffin and some southern sweet iced tea?

Since my kitchen is my happy place I love that the flowers and little bottles we painted are bright and fun as well.

This rustic vase is one of my best finds this summer. Isn’t the detailing so pretty with the rest of the tablescape?

  1. Why, yes, I’d really love to have a pumpkin muffin and a glass of sweet tea! Thanks for asking! Marty, your home looks so welcoming and inviting dressed for fall. I love how you’ve embraced the colors of fall and those orange painted bottles are really cute! Sure wish I had one of those pallet signs that says “Happy Fall!”

  2. My sweet Marty – I am so sorry I am just getting by so late. Are there any more muffins left cause I could use one after the day I have had. LOL You have been very busy haven’t you. Oh my, where to begin. Of course your “daughter’s” scarecrow project stole my heart, and the fact that it is still so special to you. I adore the pinecones on ribbon. I may have to borrow that idea. But I really loved your wood signs and the basket on your porch. I know your home is warm and inviting because it shows in your pics. Love you sweet friend. xxoo, Barb

    1. Well, we survived the week and I think it was a success! Thanks for all the sweet comments on my little homey home 🙂 The fence board pumpkins are my fav, too. I debated putting the words on it but they’re just so me! Love ‘ya!

  3. Marty, I visited earlier today, but I don’t think I left a comment (forgive me if I already commented–it’s been a long day!). Anyway, enough about me–let’s talk about YOU! Your house looks so great in all its fall finery! I love the way you’ve used elements that you’ve bought for little money and put them all together to make things look fun and just right for Autumn. I must say that I understand all your Southern sayings even without the glossary! And I will take a pumpkin muffin, thank you. Bless your heart!

Thanks so much for opening your home this Fall!

  4. Hi Marty! I’m so excited to be visiting your place for the tour, what a beautiful home. I’m head over heels for the pia-ntel {piano mantel} you have going on 🙂 What perfect fall touches. Thanks for all your “tour guiding” behind the scenes 🙂
    P.S. The muffins were delicious!

    1. Hi, Shannon. I have really enjoyed using some coral touches in my home so fall did fit right in with that scheme! I am about ready for the cooler weather and a comfy throw!

  5. Love it sweet friend! I really want to come over and have a pumpkin muffin and some tea!! YUMMY!!! I so love your door!! What a great pop of color!! I thought the antennae was funny, although I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have noticed it if you hadn’t said anything about it, but then, you did, and it was hilarious because I totally get it!! 🙂 I do that ALL the time!! Hope you’re having a great day! So blessed to be a part of this tour with you! Hugs!! Claire

    1. Claire, you’re just so sweet. One of these days we’re gonna meet in real life and have a ball! I debated even saying anything about the cable box, but that’s just how I am. Imperfect and transparent and a little bit (or a lot) goofy.

    1. Hey, Pam. I fall more in love with my front door everyday! I had no idea how much it would change the look of our home! You should go for it!

  6. Marty, I really love your decorating attitude! You are awesome… finding all this great fall decor at yard sales or free and creating really adorable vignettes! I love the color of your front door!!! Perfect for fall. And I agree with you, my favorite is the wreath over your “mantel” ( so fun). It has lots of texture and interest. I need to drag out my tiered bowls and fill them with fall too. Thanks for all the fall inspiration and the hand holding to get me ready to post my fall decor. I appreciate your work and patience more than you know! xo

    1. Yvonne, I didn’t have to do much hand holding. Your home is great and the post looks terrific. Thank you so much for the sweet comments you left. I feel honored!

  7. Those garage sale vases were a great find. Sometimes, I can’t imagine why people get rid of the good stuff, but I’m so glad when they do! Love the wooden ‘happy fall’ pumpkins, too. It all looks great.

    1. I loved the vases, too! I think the family I bought them from was moving out of the country, possibly as missionaries. They are chipped on the back but nobody can see it! Thanks for stopping by for my home tour.

  8. Gorgeous Fall home, Marty! It’s so alive with seasonal color, both inside and out! Your vignettes are so inspiring, too! Happy Fall!

    1. Hey, Heather. Thanks so much for stopping by my home tour. I’m loving YOUR new home. It’s amazing!I know you’re having a blast decorating and making it a home. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

  9. Marty – you are one of the most creative people that I know when it comes to finding, repurposing and reusing your frugal finds. I just love all of your fall touches and can’t wait to see more details! And yes, the little scarecrow that your daughter made is adorable. Great job and I enjoyed your tour very much!
